Welcome back, pupils! Today is all about Graves (grahv).
Located just south of the city of Bordeaux, Graves is the historical heart of the region — the place where serious Bordeaux wine was first established long before the Médoc marshes were even drained. The name itself means “gravel,” and like the Médoc, those soils define what’s possible here.
But Graves does something the Médoc doesn’t.
It makes both serious red and serious white wine — and that alone changes the tone.
